How to obtain a Job

Get assistance from a placement agency

  • Can you trust them? - Do some research on the internet
  • Most will have their fee paid by the teaching institution
  • Unless your circumstances are unusual, you should NOT have to pay a fee to the agency (Recruiter) for this

Find a school, communicate and negotiate a job directly by yourself

  • Drawbacks are : can you verify what you are being offered/have accepted

Come to China for a look around first before accepting any jobs

  • Pluses : you can verify what's on offer personally.  You have direct access to other Western teachers at the institution if they have any.
  • Cons : when you get a job, you may be unable to get your inward flight reimbursed.  In some parts of the country you may have problems getting a tourist visa converted to a work visa
  • This method has worked very successfully for many (more adventurous) people.
